| 1999-2000 Schedule/Results Northeastern 66, Delaware 61 Danielle Leyfert scored 24 points, including the 1000th of her career, to lead Delaware to a 66-61 win over Northeastern in an America East women’s basketball game at Cabot Gym on Saturday. Northeastern jumped out to a 21-7 advantage as Tesha Tinsley (28 points) scored 11 points in the first 8:27 of play. Delaware took control after NU’s opening surge, however, going on a 20-3 run to take a 27-24 edge with 3:33 left in the first half. Leyfert had eight points during the run that put the Blue Hens ahead for good. NU’s only points during Delaware’s comeback came on a Tinsley three-pointer, which made her six of seven from the floor. The Hens did a nice job on NU’s all-time leading scorer after that point as Tinsley made just five of her next 20 shots and finished 11-27 for the game. Tinsley hit a runner as time expired in the first half to cut the Delaware edge to one, 33-32, at intermission. Leyfert then scored six of the Blue Hens’ points during an 8-2 run to start the second half that made it a 41-34 Delaware lead with 17:46 to go. The visitors extended their advantage to as much as 14 after Cindy Johnson (14 points) hit a layup to make it 58-44 with 10:37 showing. NU cut the Delaware edge to seven, down 60-53, on a Tinsley three-pointer with 2:38 to go. The Huskies then had two three-point shots to make it a four-point game but Genny Caruso missed from the corner and Tinsley’s shot from the top rattled out. Johnson made a layup at the other end to make it a comfortable nine-point Delaware lead, 63-52, with just 1:16 to go. Tinsley hit another three with two seconds left to pull NU within four, 65-61, but it would be as close as the Huskies would come. Delaware won its fourth straight game to take over third place in the conference standings, improving to 9-5 in America East and 16-7 overall. The Huskies have now lost two of their last three games and fell to 8-5 in the conference, 13-10 overall. Freshman Garrette Glinton added 12 points for the Huskies, while Lani Lawrence netted 11 to go with nine rebounds. Leyfert and Johnson were the only Blue Hens in double figures. Leyfert matched a season high with her 24 points. She became the 15th player in Delaware history to score 1000 career points, and just the fourth junior. Delaware has now defeated NU three straight times. VISITORS: Delaware 16-7, 9-5
