| 2000 Schedule/Results Northeastern 68, Boston University 53 Wanda Almengot scored a season-high 16 points to lead four players in double figures as Northeastern defeated Boston University 68-53 in an America East women’s basketball game at Cabot Gym on Thursday. It was the final regular season game for both teams and the last home game for Almengot and four other Husky seniors. NU (16-12, 11-7) will be the fourth seed in next week’s America East Championship hosted by the University of Vermont. BU, which dropped its seventh straight, will be the 10th seed with a 7-20 overall record, 3-15 in conference play. Freshman Garrette Glinton added 15 points for the Huskies, 11 coming in the first half on 5-5 shooting. Lani Lawrence netted 13 for NU, while Tesha Tinsley had 11 to go with seven assists and a career-best seven steals. Dia Dufault led the Terriers with 16 points on 7-9 shooting. Alison Dixon had 12 points. BU cut a nine-point halftime deficit to four with 9:52 left, trailing 44-40 after a layup by Dufault. It was the last of seven straight BU points by Dufault. But the Terriers got no closer as NU scored four straight points and then extended the lead back to 10, 58-48, with 2:45 left. The game’s final margin was the Huskies’ largest of the night. The Huskies got off to a cold start, missing their first five shots from the field as BU built a 6-0 lead with 17:33 to go in the first half. NU then ran off 10 straight points for a 10-6 edge with 13:42 to go before halftime. The Terriers tied the game at 10 with 12:19 left, but a layup by Lawrence gave the Huskies the lead for good at 12-10 with 10:51 to go. Glinton was making her short-range shots and NU eventually built a 34-25 edge at the half. NU has now won five of its last six against the Terriers. BU won the first matchup of the season with the Huskies on Feb. 5, 66-65, but has lost all seven of its games since then. VISITORS: Boston U. 7-20 (3-15)
