Holy Cross improved to 5-5, while NU dropped to 3-4. The Crusaders shot 51.9 percent (27-52) for the game, while the Huskies hit only 34.4 percent (22-64), including just 13 percent from beyond the three-point arc (3-23). Abraham hit 8-12 shot from the floor, while Liz O’Connor netted 5-8 for 17 points. Elisa Zawadzkas had 14 points for Holy Cross. Freshman Melissa Kowalski led four Huskies in double figures with 12 points, while Aisha Williams had 11. Lani Lawrence and Kiarsha Curtis each added 10 points for NU.
Holy Cross led 40-26 at the half, but the Huskies used a 17-7 run over the first 7:45 of the second half to get within four, 47-43. Kowalski had seven points in the surge, including a three-pointer to cap the run. NU would get no closer, however, as the Crusaders came right back with a 9-0 spurt to extend the lead to a comfortable 13, 56-43, with 8:10 left. Abraham had a pair of layups and an assist in the run.
The Huskies cut it to six, 56-50, but again Holy Cross answered, netting four straight points for a 60-50 edge with 6:10 left. The lead eventually grew as large as 19, at 74-55, with 1:06 left.
Holy Cross gradually built a big lead in the first half. Up 13-12 with 12:55 to go before intermission, the Crusaders outscored NU 18-4 over the next 6:47 to stake a 31-16 advantage (their largest of the half). The Huskies had it down to nine, 35-26, but Holy Cross scored the last five points of the half for the 40-26 lead at the break.
Holy Cross continued its dominance of NU and has now won all 10 meetings between the schools.
