Chanez Robinson added to recruiting class
May 1, 2008
Boston, MA

Head coach Danyia La-Force Mann has announced the addition of Chanez Robinson (Newark, N.J./Malcolm X Shabazz) to her 2008 recruiting class, bolstering an already strong group of incoming freshmen. A 6’2 center, Robinson led Shabazz to the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title in 2006 and 2008.

"Chanez's ability to rebound the ball and her aggressive footwork in the post compliments my vision for developing an even stronger front court,” said La-Force Mann. “She comes from a very successful high school program which has provided her with a sense of the hard work and intensity it will take to bring our program to a championship level."

Shabazz is a perennial power in New Jersey girls basketball, and Robinson was a key part of their success during her four years. This past season, she grabbed 16 rebounds in helping Shabazz to a 56-38 win over Ocean City in the Group III state championship game, securing Shabazz’s spot in the New Jersey Tournament of Champions. Once in the tournament, Shabazz dominated, beating fellow power St. John Vianney 66-35 in the semifinals, and Trenton Central 48-37 in the final.

In all, Robinson helped lead Shabazz to two Tournament of Champions titles, two Group III state championships, two State Sectional championships, and four consecutive Conference championships. Robinson was also recognized individually during her career, being named second team All-City, second team All-Conference, and third team All-County.

Shabazz has had success placing its players in major Division I programs in recent years. Senior guard Matee Ajavon of Rutgers was the Big East Freshmen of the Year in 2005. Senior forward Shahida Williams of Old Dominion averaged 9.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in 2007-08.

Robinson is the seventh member of La-Force Mann’s talented recruiting class. Five student-athletes in the class have been named All-State during their high school careers, including the 2008 Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year, Brittany Wilson.

The Huskies finished the season with a 14-16 overall record and advanced to the CAA quarterfinals.
