| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Northeastern 57, William & Mary 52
The Huskies won their fifth straight game Sunday, a hard-fought 57-52 win over William & Mary on Senior Day. Seniors Shaleyse Smallwood and Lucia Pablos paced the Huskies with 17 and 12 points. The Huskies overcame a nine-point second half deficit, the second time they’ve come back on the Tribe this season. The win improves NU’s record to 7-10 in the CAA. Prior to the game seniors Smallwood, Pablos, Stefanie Hodell, India Thomas, and Sigrid Scherpiet were honored. The quintet were not only looking for their final game at Solomon Court to be a win, but to help the Huskies continue their hot streak and continue to improve their position for the CAA Tournament. The Tribe and their tenacious defense looked like they were going to put a stop to NU’s winning streak late in the first half and early in the second, as the Huskies went cold from the floor. After Jasmine Crew’s jumper with 5:23 left in the first half put the Huskies up 24-17, NU made just one field goal the rest of the half, as the Tribe climbed back into the game. Kendra Walton’s three-pointer with 10 seconds left put the Huskies ahead 25-24 after they had fallen behind. Kelly Heath though answered with a three of her own at the buzzer to give the visitors a 28-27 halftime advantage. The Huskies’ cold shooting continued into the second half as Northeastern made just one field goal over the first six minutes of the second half. The shooting drought allowed the Tribe to take a 40-31 lead, its largest of the game. A jumper by Stefanie Hodell broke the cold spell, and a three-pointer by Crew jump-started a 13-4 Husky run that tied the game at 44 with 7:19 to play. With the score knotted again at 48, a three-pointer by Pablos put the Huskies ahead for good at 51-48 with 2:41 to play. William & Mary got to within 51-50 after two foul shots, but Smallwood answered with a jumper on the next possession to extend the lead back to three. Still leading 53-50 with 27 seconds to play, Smallwood missed a shot with the shot clock winding down, but Crew grabbed the rebound. Crew then nailed a jumper with 21 seconds left, sealing the game for NU. Tiffany Benson recorded a double-double for the Tribe with 21 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs. The five game winning streak for NU is the team’s longest since 2003-04. They’ll go for six straight in the regular season finale Thursday night at George Mason.
