The Northeastern women’s basketball team fell to Delaware 64-53 Thursday night at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del. The Huskies, now 10-17 overall, 7-9 in the CAA, were led by Kim Carr’s 14-point and five-rebound effort. Kendra Walton added 10 points and eight boards, while Jasmine Crew chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds.
In a very physical first half, Delaware jumped to an early 5-1 lead. But Northeastern’s Kim Carr scored six straight NU points to tie up the score at 7 all. The Huskies then took an 11-7 lead via back-to-back buckets from Brittany Wilson and Kashaia Cannon.
The Fightin’ Blue Hens fought back to take a 14-13 lead with 9:49. The two team would exchange leads as they flip-flopped points. As fouls plagued Northeastern, Chanez Robinson came off the bench giving NU some much-needed sparks. Robison went 3-for-3 from the field for seven points helping NU take a 24-20 lead with 2:23 left to play. UD tied up the contest at 24 all, however NU would go on a 5-0 run capitalized by a Kendra Walton three pointer as time expired giving the Huskies a 29-24 advantage going into the locker room.
The second half started off similar to the first with both teams going back and forth on the scoreboard. Wilson got things going for Northeastern by grabbing a defensive rebound then going coast-to-coast for the fast-break lay-up. Following a Delaware lay-up, Ashlee Feldman answered right back with a lay-up of her own to put NU back up by five.
The Fightin’ Blue Hens fought back tying up the score at 35 off a Tesia Harris three-point shot with 14:31 on the clock. Carr would answer right back with a lay-up from Feldman. Delaware went on to take a 44-38 lead thanks to a 6-0 run. Walton would hit a corner three pointer ending the run and pulling the Huskies to within three. But UD hit back-to-back shots increasing its lead to seven.
Crew cut Delaware’s lead down to five after nailing a fade-away jumper with 6:19 ticks left. After a UD basket, Walton hit a corner three-point field goal to pull NU to within four. But that would be the last field goal the Huskies would score as Delaware went on a 7-0 run to close end the game.
Northeastern will stay on the road when it travels to Virginia Commonwealth Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
