Huskies fourth most improved in Division I
April 28, 2008
Boston, MA

The Huskies were the fourth most improved team in Division I women’s basketball in 2007-08, according to the NCAA. Northeastern won just four games in 2006-07, but turned things around this past season by earning 14 wins overall and eight in the CAA. The Huskies’ season featured a seven-game winning streak and a trip to the CAA quarterfinals. Northeastern comes in behind Winthrop, Syracuse, and Dayton on the list.

In just her second season on the job, head coach Daynia La-Force Mann led the program to its most wins since the 2004-05 season. The eight CAA wins is the school’s most since joining the conference in 2005. Showing such vast improvement after two years, La-Force Mann certainly has the Huskies headed towards becoming a perennial contender in the CAA.

Northeastern started the season 5-5, but struggled once CAA play began. However, the Huskies started to turn things around after beating Hofstra 71-67 in overtime on Feb. 10. That game was the beginning of a stretch where NU won eight of nine games that included a seven-game winning streak, punctuated by a 78-46 rout of George Mason in the first round of the CAA Tournament.
