The Northeastern women’s crew team dropped the opening race of the 2009 regatta season to Dartmouth while besting Rhode Island and Boston College on the Charles River Saturday.
Dartmouth, plowing through white caps and battling strong headwinds, covered the Charles 2000-meter course in 7:38.7 to NU’s 7:43.7. Rhode Island was third at 7:57.0 and Boston College finished in 7:57.6
At the settle Dartmouth had already established a half-length lead and stretched it to one length at the 500-meter mark. For the next 1500 meters the crews exchanged Power 10s, but NU could not break the one length Dartmouth lead.
The Huskies will next row in the Orange Cup vs. Pennsylvania and Syracuse on Lake Onondaga in Syracuse, NY on Saturday, April 11. Races will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m.
