The Northeastern women’s crew team dropped the opening race of the 2009 regatta season to Dartmouth while besting Rhode Island and Boston College on the Charles River Saturday. Dartmouth covered the Charles 2000-meter course in 7:38.7 to NU’s 7:43.7. Rhode Island was third at 7:57.0 and Boston College finished in 7:57.6. NU will next row in the Orange Cup vs. Pennsylvania and Syracuse on Lake Onondaga on Sat., April 11. Races will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m.

Huskies to compete in CAA Championship
The Huskies will take part in the first-ever CAA Championship regatta on Saturday, April 18, on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The CAA is in its first season sponsoring women's rowing and has five full-time CAA members that sponsor rowing: Delaware, Drexel, George Mason, Northeastern and Old Dominion. Joining as an associate member is Buffalo. The event begins at 10 a.m. and will feature races in the Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and 2nd Varsity 8.

Huskies release 2009 schedule
The Huskies have announced their schedule for the 2009 season, in which they will row in seven races, including the first-ever CAA Championship Regatta. Four of the seven races will be on the Charles, including the season opener against Dartmouth, Boston College, and Rhode Island on April 4. Northeastern will also host the two-day Charles River Challenge April 25-26 in which crews from seven different schools will compete. NU will also take part in the annual Orange Cup vs. Pennsylvania and Syracuse, and will race in the Beanpot, Jeanne Rowlands Cup, Woodbury Cup and Women’s Council Cup on May 2 before traveling to Camden, NJ for the EAWRC and NCAA Championships.

Huskies eighth in Foot of the Charles
The Northeastern women's crew raced three varsity 4+ boats at the Foot of the Charles Regatta on Sat., Nov. 15. The NU varsity "A" boat finished in eighth place at 14:44.6, the "B" boat finished 14th at 15:00.7 and the "C" boat finished 45th at 15:51.3. This was the last race for the fall crew season. Brown won the regatta posting a 14:15.5 time.

Huskies 13th in Head of the Charles
The Northeastern women's crew participated in the 44th rowing of the Head of the Charles Regatta Oct. 18-19. The Huskies finished 13th in the championship eights and 17th in the club eights. In the championship eights race, the Huskies finished with a time of 16:59.902 and was the ninth college crew. The London Training Center boat won the race with a time 16:02.507.

Glessner wins gold at World Championship
Katherine Glessner has won a gold medal at the Under-23 World Championship in Bredenburg, Germany. Glessner, a current senior at Northeastern University, rowed in the seven seat, helping her crew to finish in front of Poland. This is Glessner's second gold medal at the World Championship.

Glessner named to U.S. Under-23 National Team
Katherine Glessner, a current senior at Northeastern University, has been named to the U.S. Under-23 National Team Eight. She will represent the U.S. in the World Rowing Championship in Bredenburg, Germany July 17-20. This will be Glessner’s second trip to the World Championship.

CRCA honors six Huskies
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association has named five Huskies as National Scholar-Athletes for the 2008 season, while another was named to an All-Region First Team. The five scholar-athletes are seniors Ashley Griffeth, Jillise Ketcham and Meredith Sparano, and juniors Svenja Sanders and Pia Zubrowski. Senior Ashley Bruno was also named to the new England All-Region First Team. Both press releases can be read on row2k.com.
