Laura Macfarlane is in her second season coaching at Northeastern, primarily assisting with the varsity boats. She came to NU from the University of Iowa, where she was assistant coach of the women’s crew for four years. Her boats were consistently competitive, earning medals at the Big Ten Championship and in the Central Regional Sprints. She previously coached for a year each stints at her alma mater, Wisconsin, and at Sacramento State.

Macfarlane graduated from Wisconsin in 2000 after rowing for four years. She was an outstanding oarswoman in one of the nation’s outstanding crew programs, rowing in the varsity eight as a junior and senior. In her senior year of 1999, the Badgers won the Midwest Sprints and went on to row in the NCAA Championship. That same year, she was also the recipient of the Graves Family Award. Wisconsin’s prowess was heralded with a trip to England to compete in the Women’s Royal Henley Regatta.

Macfarlane’s summers have not been months of rest. As an undergrad, she spent summers at the U.S. Rowing Development Camp. As a coach, she taught at the Navy Rowing Camp for girls from 2004-06, and coached at Midwest Development Camp of U.S. Rowing in 2000, ’01 and ’06.
