Katherine Glessner wins gold at Under-23 World Championship July 21, 2008 Boston, MAKatherine Glessner, a senior at Northeastern, helped row the U.S. Under-23 eight that won the World Championship this past weekend in Brandenburg, Germany. Glessner, who was unable to row for the 2007 Under-23 team and 2008 Husky team last year due to an injury in her right arm, overcame her injuries and rowed in the seven seat, helping her crew to finish 3.71 seconds in front of Poland.
This is Glessner’s second World Championship gold medal after winning the 2006 World Rowing Under-23 Championship.
While at Northeastern, Glessner was named first team All-New England in 2006, 2007 and second team All-New England in 2005 while earning second team All-American honors in 2006, and 2007. She was also voted Outstanding Varsity Oarsman in 2006 and team MVP in 2007.
Glessner is from Seattle, Wash., and rowed varsity for two years at Holy Names Academy.
