Huskies take seventh at the CAA Championship

The women’s cross country team recorded a seventh-place finish at the 2009 CAA Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at the New Market Battlefield State Historical Park in New Market, Va. The Huskies were guided by sophomore Kristen Martin’s 25th-place showing of 22:27.72 in the 6K run. Martin beat out 81 other harriers.
Saturday morning’s race was the first 6K the Huskies have competed in this fall. All four previous races measured as 5Ks.
William and Mary captured its seventh-consecutive women’s conference title while the Tribe’s Emily Anderson ran away with the individual league title in 20:35.68. Teammate Meghan Burns finished second in 20:49.02 while James Madison’s Alison Parris and Stacey Nobles completed in 20:55.54 and 20:59.87 for third and fourth, respectively. George Mason’s Rochelle Sceats finalized the top five after her make of 21:01.32.
James Madison finished in second place while George Mason claimed third place. Delaware earned fourth-place status while Towson took over the fifth-place post. UNC Wilmington finished one spot ahead of the Huskies in sixth while Georgia State, VCU and Hofstra rounded out the eighth, ninth and 10th-place spots.
Freshman Katie Barrett crossed the line in 28th-place with a time of 22:34.27 while junior Annie Scully closed out the 6K trial in 22:55.59 for 35th place, overall.
Sophomores Meegan Joly and Seri Gordon turned in respective times of 23:03.37 and 23:09.75 for 40th and 41st place.
Third-year distance runner Jill Buck put forth a 54th-place mark of 23:27.44 while sophomore Courtney Mortimer looped the course in 23:46.36 for 61st place.
Karissa Mako and Eryn Wheeler rounded out NU’s contingent by posting times of 24:02.56 and 24:18.02, in that order, for 67th and 71st place.
The Huskies return to Franklin Park for the third time this season when Northeastern toes the line at the NCAA Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 14.
