Boston, Mass.
Junior Leah Sulyma (Inuvik, Northwest Territories) has earned Hockey
East Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the
conference today. Sulyma turned aside 32 shots in a 3-2 Husky victory
over Bemidji State on Saturday, Oct. 24. Sulyma joins sophomore
Florence Schelling (Oberengstringen, Switzerland) as the second Northeastern goaltender to earn the
award this season.
This is Sulyma's third-career Defensive Player of the Week award, as she took home the honor twice last season on Oct. 20 and Jan. 12. The Huskies have now laid claim to three of the first five Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors this season (Schelling won on Oct. 5 and Oct. 12).
Schelling and Sulyma have yet to allow more than two goals in any game this season, combining for a 1.13 GAA and a .958 save percentage through seven games.
Northeastern returns to action for a pair of Hockey East contests on Oct. 30-31 at Vermont.
