Maine scored three goals in the final six minutes of play to rally from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 victory over Northeatern in Hockey East action at Matthews Arena Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Vicky Johnstone scored her first goal of the season with 1:26 left in regulation to lift the Black Bears to a thrilling come-from-behind win. Maine improves to 9-14-4 overall and 6-8-2 in Hockey East play, while Northeastern falls to 13-8-7 and 7-5-3.

The Huskies appeared to have the game in hand after freshman Amy Goodney deflected Becky Peters shot from the point for a power-play goal at the 5:21 mark of the third, which gave NU a 2-0 advantage. Husky senior goalie Chanda Gunn (27 saves) was playing well in net and had stopped 20 shots through two periods of play.

At the 14:46 mark of the third period, Maine's Meagan Aarts brought the Black Bears within one goal with a power-play tally. Cheryl White sent a crisp pass from behind the net to Aarts in front of the goal for a one-timer.

Tristan Desmet knotted the game at 2 with a breakaway goal with 2:17 left in regulation. Desmet cut across the goal crease from right to left and slipped a backhander past Gunn for the score.

Johnstone banged home the game winner after a face-off in the Husky end with 1:26 remaining.

After nearly 20 minutes of scoreless action and with the Huskies playing a man-down, freshman Crystal Rochon took a pass from Rachael Bertram and skated in on a partial breakaway. As Rochon was being taken down from behind, she managed to get off a backhand shot that slid inside the far left post, past Maine goalie Lara Smart (32 saves) before crashing into the boards with 1:17 left in the first period.

NU held an 11-4 shot advantage and a 1-0 lead at the first intermission. The Huskies went 0-for-3 on the power play in the first 20 minutes, while the Black Bears went 0-for-2 and gave up the shorthanded strike.
