Northeastern freshmen Melissa Jubinville and Susannah Brokl scored third-period goals to erase a 2-0 deficit and salvage a 2-2 tie with Connecticut at UConn Ice Arena Sunday afternoon.
NU is now 13-9-8 overall and 7-6-4 in Hockey East play. UConn is 9-17-6 and 5-9-4. Northeastern's magic number to qualify for the postseason is one. If NU can earn one point in its last three games, or if UConn loses or ties on if its last two games, Northeastern will at least earn a fourth seed.
Jubinville's goal was the first of her career, while Brokl tallied her second goal in as many days after netting her career first in the Huskies' 4-2 loss to UConn Saturday.
All Northeastern's points came from its rookie class, as Melissa Wigmore had an assist for the second straight game, Jubinville added an assist and Ashly Waggoner had a helper.
Senior goalie Chanda Gunn stopped 36 shots in goal, including 19 saves in the first period. Gunn made 70 saves in the two-game set.
With NU trailing 2-1 midway through third period, Jubinville knotted the game at the 11:43 mark when she struck a low slap shot though the legs of UConn goaltender Kaitlyn Shain (30 saves) for a power-play goal.
Brokl halved the NU deficit with 9:47 remaining in regulation.
