Sophomore Katy Augustyn stopped 28 shots in her collegiate debut to earn her first career shutout with a 3-0 blanking of visiting Niagara in non-conference action at Matthews Arena Sunday.

It was a day of firsts for other Huskies as well. Freshman Amy Goodney netted her first two career goals, including the game winner. Sophomore Cyndy Kenyon scored her first goal of the season. Freshman Crystal Rochon tallied her first two career points with two assists. And, sophomore Rachael Bertram recorded her first assist of the year.

The win extended Northeastern's unbeaten streak to five games, as the Huskies improved to 3-1-2 overall. Niagara dropped to 1-2-1.

Goodney put NU ahead for good at 11:15 of the second period. Bertram shot the puck toward the net from the right point and Goodney redirected the shot past NU keeper Allison Rutledge (24 saves).

The Huskies padded their lead six minutes later, when Kenyon knocked in a rebound at 16:59 for a 2-0 edge. Rochon had fed freshman Marie Desrosiers at the lower right circle for a shot that Rutledge made a kick save on, but was unable to control the rebound.

With 8:15 remaining in regulation, Augustyn made the biggest save of the game. Niagara's Lindsay Vine picked up a loose puck and skated down the ice on an uncontested breakaway. Augustyn stood her ground and stoned Vine to preserve the Husky lead and the shutout.

Goodney added an empty net goal with 26 seconds left after Rochon outhustled a Niagara player and poked the puck in her direction.

Niagara outshot Northeastern, 28-27. The Huskies went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Purple Eagles were 0-for-2 on the man-advantage.
