| 2003-04 Schedule/Results Northeastern 6, Yale 3
Sophomore Cyndy Kenyon potted two goals, while classmate Katy Augustyn stopped 37 shots in net, to lead host Northeastern to a 6-3 victory over Yale in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena. The Huskies (4-1-2) had an answer for every Yale (1-1-1) rally to earn the victory. NU received goals from five different players, including freshman Crystal Rochon's first collegiate goal and junior Lori DiGiacomo's first of the season. The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Rochon wristed a shot top shelf to beat Yale netminder Sarah Love (17 saves) at the 9:15 mark. Freshman Mia Mucci dug the puck out of the corner and found Rochon in front of the goal. Yale evened the score just before the first intermission when Jenna Spring connected with a Christina Shaun in front of Augustyn for a one-timer with 1:19 left in the period. The goal was the first Augustyn surrendered since her college debut against Niagara Nov. 2 (78:41 minutes). NU answered immediately in the second period on a picture perfect passing combination from the team's all-Canadian freshmen line of Marie Desrosiers, Mia Mucci and Rochon. Mucci skated around the back of the net and hit Rochon in the left circle. Rochon put the puck on the tape of Desrosiers stick as she skated down the right slot. Desrosiers then waited for Love to go down before roofing the puck for her third goal of the season 1:32 into the action. The Huskies added to their lead 28 seconds later, when Kenyon knocked in a rebound. Amy Goodney and Ashley Waggoner assisted on the play. Waggoner's assist was her first career point. Northeastern held its 3-1 advantage until the waning moments of the second period, until Yale's Regan Gilbride stuck with a play and registered an unassisted goal with 25 seconds remaining in the period. Gilbride fired a shot on Augustyn, who made the saves. Gilbride tried to stuff in the rebound, but was thwarted again. But the third time was the charm, as she managed to lift the puck over a diving Augustyn for the score. The Huskies managed to withstand a Yale onslaught in the third period that included two power plays. With NU clinging to its 3-2 lead, DiGiacomo opened up the game with a goal from Jennifer Beaudoin with the teams skating 4-on-4 with 5:02 to play. Yale was whistled for cross checking and NU didn't waste any time converting the 4-on-3 power play. Just eight seconds into the man-advantage, freshman Jessica Coppney tallied her third goal of the season to give the Huskies an insurmountable 5-2 edge. Sophomore Theresa Ella and Waggoner added assists. Yale's Sheila Zingler cut the deficit to 5-3 with 2:42 remaining in the contest, but Kenyon added an empty net goal with 38 seconds left to put the game away. Yale outshot NU, 40-24, including 18-6 over the final 20 minutes. Yale was 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Huskies were 1-for-2. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
