Northeastern fell to the top team in the nation today with an 8-1 loss against the Minnesota Gophers. The Huskies drop to 2-9-1 on the season while the Gophers continue their undefeated season as they rise to 12-0-1.

Minnesota's defense smothered the Huskies offensive attack as Northeastern managed only eight shots on goal for the game. Minnesota's defense also allowed no shots on goal for the entire third period. In contrast, The high-powered Minnesota offense put 49 shots on goal for the game.

The Golden Gophers went into the first intermission with a 3-0 lead thanks to goals by Krissy Wendell, Becky Wacker and defenseman Lindsay Wall. Northeastern responded in the second period with a power play goal by Nikki Petrich. Minnesota followed with three goals to put the game out of reach going into the third period.

Krissy Wendell brought her season goal total up to 19 on the season thanks to her hat trick. Wendell also assisted on Kelly Stephens third period goal to give her four points on the day and also was amazing on face-offs winning 12 and losing only one. Minnesota recorded four power play goals out of nine attempts for an amazing 44% conversion rate.

Northeastern's lone goal came from freshman Nikki Petrich who was able to score during a 5 on 3 power play opportunity early in the second period. The goal was Petrich's fifth of the season which ties her with Amy Goodney for the team lead. Petrich was recently named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week.

The Huskies Marisa Hourihan had 41 saves for the game while allowing all 8 Minnesota goals. Minnesota started Brenda Reinen who stopped seven shots for the game to put her record at 4-0-0.

Northeastern will face-off against the fourth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers tomorrow at 1 p.m. The game will be played at Harvard at the Bright Hockey Center. This will be Northeastern's fourth consecutive game against a team ranked in the top ten nationally.
