![]() 2004-05 Schedule/Results #8 New Hampshire 2, Northeastern 1
The Huskies lost their fourth one-goal game since the holiday break. This time it was No. 8 New Hampshire giving NU a 2-1 loss. Crystal Rochon scored the Huskies goal in the opening seconds of the third period, and Marisa hourihan tied her own school record, saving 57 shots. UNH's Jackie Wedster scored the game-winner 8:24 into the third period. The Huskies fired the first three shots on net to open the game, but then it was New Hampshire the rest of the way. The Wildcats put 19 straight shots before Northeastern would strike against Bourdon again. Both teams, especially UNH, had scoring chances but came up short. Shots favored UNH 23-6 after the period with the score tied 0-0. The second period featured more opportunities for UNH. They peppered Hourihan with 17 more shots. At 19:35, Leah Craig and Nicole Hekle set up captain Stephanie Jones. Jones came from behind the net and shot the puck at Hourihan. It originally looked like she saved it stick side, but the puck fell out and trickled in the net. UNH took the 1-0 lead into the second intermission. NU and Crytsal Rochon had the answer in the beginning of the third period. Amy Goodney set Rochon up in the center just outside the right face off circle. The goal was scored only 14 seconds into the third period, and 39 seconds on the game clock after Jones' goal for UNH. But UNH answered one final time at 8:24 to score what would be the game-winner. Jackie Wedster shot a bullet past Hourihan from just outside the crease. Taylor Palazeti was credited with the assist. UNH was called for a hooking penalty at 18:17, and NU pulled Hourihan afterwards for a 6-on-4 advantage. The sustained NU pressure for the last minute of play did not produce and goal, and the Huskies dropped their 19th game of the season, 2-1. The first time these teams met, UNH won by eight goals. The second time, the difference was six goals. The third time, the difference was three goals. This time, it was only a goal. "We are very happy with the outcome because of the fact that we came up only a goal short compared to the first game when it was 8-0," said Rochon after the game. "We are getting closer, and it (winning) will happen sooner or later." "Northeastern is definitely giving us more of a challenge since the beginning of the year," said UNH's top scorer, Nicole Hekle. "I think every team in Hockey East has become a lot stronger. It is a closer running race now than it was. We have to look out for everyone, including (Northeastern)." Next up for Northeastern is No. 6 Harvard in the Beanpot. All games of the women's Beanpot will be played at Matthews Arena. Harvard and NU face off at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. BC will play BU at 5:00 p.m. Northeastern has the most Beanpot cahmpionships with 14, but Harvard has won six straight, and is the favorite once again to make it seven in a row. Students and fans are encouraged to support the women on Tuesday evening, the night after the men battle things out at the Fleet Center. Women's tickets will be $8 for adults, and $4 for students of the four competing schools, high school kids, and younger. Tickets are good for both games. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
