| 2006 Schedule/Results Northeastern 5, Bluewater Junior Hawks 4
The Northeastern women's hockey team tallied three first-period goals to walk away with a 5-4 exhibition victory over the Bluewater Junior Hawks Saturday, Oct. 2 at Matthews Arena. Junior transfer Kim Kodatsky scored a pair of goals for NU, while Marie Desrosiers and Ashley Bielawski each tallied a goal and an assist in the victory. Amy Goodney registered a single goal for the Huskies, while the Junior Hawks got a pair of scores from Mallory Deluce and solo tallies from Jenna McCall and Marilynn Hay. Marisa Hourihan made 24 saves in her first preseason action for NU. Lisa Plenderleith made 21 saves in just under 30 minutes of action, allowing two goals, and was credited with the loss. Desrosiers, who tallied the game-tying goal in Friday's 3-3 deadlock with the Toronto Junior Aeros, got the game-winner at 14:46 of the third on the power play. Erin Reil got off a shot from the point and Desrosiers jumped on the rebound, shooting the puck past Plenderleith to the far side. Ali Bielawski also received an assist on the play. Northeastern got on the board first when Ashley Bielawski converted a clean faceoff win off the stick of Crystal Rochon to put the home squad up 1-0. With Bluewater's Ashley Brumer in the box for a body checking minor, Rochon's draw came directly to Bielawski at the near point, and the junior wristed a shot through Amanda Muhlig's five hole just four seconds into the power play at 7:02. NU struck again just 33 seconds later, this time when Amy Goodney converted a two-on-one opportunity with Ashley Bielawski to put the Huskies up 2-0. Nikki Petrich grabbed the puck in the defensive zone and found Bielawski streaking up the right side to create the odd-man rush. Bielawski found a wide-open Goodney, who put a move on Muhlig and slipped the puck to the near side for her first goal of the preseason. The Huskies extended their lead to 3-0 when junior Kim Kodatsky redirected a Jennifer Beaudoin pass for her first goal in an NU uniform. Beaudoin got an open look from the top of the left faceoff circle and found Kodatsky on the far side for a chipshot goal at 13:50. Marie Desrosiers also was credited with an assist on the play. The Junior Hawks got on the board at the 10:50 mark of the second period, with Deluce scoring on a point blank shot to trim the NU lead to 3-1. Deluce skated out from the near corner and pushed the puck past Hourihan to the far side. Katie Stewart and Lisa Wilson were given assists on the play. Deluce struck again six minutes later, this time coming in from the far side and putting a shot between Hourihan's pads. Deluce stole the puck along the far side dashers and cut to the net, muscling a backhander slowly over the goal line at 16:39. NU struck back at the 18:31 mark, when Kodatsky potted her second goal of the game, this time beating Plenderleith, who entered the contest midway through the period. Chrissy Sands, who received an assist on the play, started a two-on-one with Kodatsky up the right side and wristed a puck off Plenderleith's pads. Kodatsky pounced on the rebound and put it through the goaltender to give the Huskies a 4-2 lead after two. The Junior Hawks once again trimmed the deficit to one, with McCall putting a wrister past Hourihan at 3:29 of the third period. Ashley Bruxer got off a long pass to Randi Wilson, who found McCall up the right side. McCall's shot trickled past Hourihan and over the goal line to make the NU lead 4-3. Following Desrosiers' goal, Bluewater finished up the scoring at the 17:16 mark, with Hay registering a power play goal with NU's Colleen Sanborn in the box. Katrina Protopas posted an assist on the play. NU went 2-for-5 with a man-advantage, while Bluewater went 1-for-3. Northeastern outshot the visitors by a 39-28 margin. Beaudoin led all skaters with a plus-3 on the afternoon. Northeastern is back in action on Friday, Oct. 7, when it hosts Boston University at 7 p.m. at Matthews Arena. The game will be the first Hockey East contest of the season, and will also be BU's first contest as a varsity program. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
