The Northeastern women's hockey team fell to 1-9-1 (1-4-1 Hockey East) on the season after a 1-0 loss to conference foe Vermont. Caroline Donahue scored the game's only goal in the first period and Vermont's Shivaun Siegl picked up the shutout on 27 saves to lift the Catamounts to 2-8-2 (1-1-1 HE)on the season. It marked the Cats' first win as a member of Hockey East. Marisa Hourihan made 27 saves of her own in the loss.
Vermont took the lead for good at the 4:55 mark, as Donahue stole the puck away from an NU defender breaking the puck out of the zone. She broke in alone on Hourihan and buried the puck for her third goal of the season and an unassisted tally.
Siegl made that lead stand up throughout the game by making 27 saves, including 11 in a third period in which Northeastern had a number of quality chances. NU got a pair of power plays midway through the final frame, and reeled off six shots on their three third-period power plays. But UVM's defense continually blocked Northeastern chances, and Siegl turned aside all the shots that made their way through the defense.
Hourihan made several key stops of her own, including a second-period flurry where UVM had a pair of quality chances in deep. But the senior turned away all 14 shots she faced in the second.
NU and UVM each went 0-for-6 on the power play as each team was whistled for six minor penalties. The Huskies are back in action Sunday, Nov. 13 as they play host to Connecticut for another Hockey East contest.
