| 2005-06 Schedule/Results No. 4 UNH 2, Northeastern 0
The Northeastern women’s hockey team held Hockey East’s top offense to two goals, but the UNH defense locked down on the visitors to lead the fourth-ranked Wildcats to a 2-0 victory. Marisa Hourihan made 52 saves in a losing effort, including 20 in the third period. Defenseman Becky Peters had a goal and an assist in the first for UNH, which extended its winning streak against the Huskies to 14 games. The Wildcats got on the board at 5:50 of the first, as Becky Peters scored her first goal of the season on a wrister from the point. Freshman Angela Taylor took the puck along the far boards and passed to Nicole Goguen on the far point. Goguen passed D-to-D to Peters on the near side and the senior wristed a shot high to Hourihan’s blocker side. The puck found its way through a screen and under the crossbar to put UNH up 1-0. Northeastern was able to kill off the first Wildcat power play, but before NU could get a full line change, Jennifer Hitchcock gave the home squad a 2-0 lead at 11:26. Becky Peters sent Hitchcock through the defense with a perfect pass, and the sophomore wristed the puck to Hourihan’s blocker side low. It was Hitchcock’s fifth goal of the season. The two teams went scoreless in the second period, as UNH’s forecheck held the Huskies at bay and Hourihan turned aside 18 Wildcat attempts. The best scoring chance came off a wild exchange three minutes into the frame. Ashley Bielawski started a two-on-one break and tried to deke around Busa to the near side, but the junior made a sliding pad save to keep NU off the board. The ‘Cats countered with a breakaway of their own, but Hourihan stoned Leah Craig with a diving save to keep the game at 2-0. In the third, NU was once again bested by the home forecheck, but Hourihan remained stellar between the pipes, turning aside a multitude of Wildcat chances. But the Huskies could not find a way to crack the home squad’s defense and UNH came away with the victory. The Huskies are not in action again until next Tuesday, Nov. 22, when they will play host to Brown for a non-conference matchup. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
