Marisa Hourihan made 29 saves for the Northeastern women's hockey team, but Boston College goalie Alison Quandt was equal to the task to earn BC a 2-1 victory at Matthews Arena on Monday, Jan. 9. Nikki Petrich scored the lone goal for NU, which fell to 4-15-1 (3-9-1 Hockey East) on the season. The Eagles moved to 7-7-4 (6-2-1 HE) with the victory.

BC struck first in the contest, as Deborah Spillane put home her ninth goal of the season at 3:10 of the opening frame. Sarah Feldman found Spillane in the far corner, and the sophomore skated right to the net and put a backhander to the near side past Hourihan. Feldman and Krystal Strassman received assists on the goal.

NU knotted the score at 1-1 13:25 into the second, as Petrich crashed the net and the puck found its way through Quandt just before referee Danyel Howard blew the whistle. Ashley Bielawski fed Petrich from the far-side boards to assist on Petrich's fifth goal of the season. It was the only blemish on Quandt's record, as she turned away the other 19 shots she faced.

The Huskies controlled the momentum for the majority of the period from there on, but BC capitalized on an NU turnover to regain the lead at 19:31. Shannon Webster brought the puck up the left side and dropped a pass for Lee-J Mirasolo near the dasher boards. Mirasolo fed a streaking Lindsay Wright, and the sophomore stuffed the puck home past Hourihan for her second goal of the year.

The two teams went back-and-forth in the third, with the visitors outshooting the Huskies 11-9. But NU had a golden opportunity with four minutes to play in the game, as Ashley Bielawski snared a loose puck and broke into the neutral zone. The junior beat everyone down the ice on a breakaway, only to have Quandt make a pad save on her deke to the forehand.

BC outshot the Huskies 31-20 in the game, despite the fact that the Eagles were whistled for seven penalties to NU's four. Each team was scoreless on the power play.

Northeastern returns to Matthews Arena on Friday night for a non-conference match with Rensselaer. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
