| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Boston College 2, Northeastern 1
Ali Bielawski scored a third-period goal for the Northeastern women's hockey team, but the Huskies found themselves on the short end of a 2-1 score on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Kelley Rink. Marisa Hourihan's 20 saves were countered by 25 by Alison Quandt, who helped the Eagles to their fifth straight victory, all over Hockey East opponents. NU fell to 4-17-1 on the season (3-10-1 HE) despite outshooting the Eagles 26-22 in the game. It marks the third time in three games against BC that the Huskies have fallen by one goal. Each team had a pair of abbreviated power plays in the first period, but neither team generated much offense on the man-advantage. The Huskies had a pair of odd-man rushes, one of which had Marie Desrosiers stuffed on a pad save by Quandt midway through the frame. NU got another good chance when Courtney O'Connor sprung defense partner Jennifer Beaudoin for a 2-on-1 break, but Beaudoin's centering pass waas turned away by the BC defense. The Eagles got on the board on a second-period power play at 1:21. With O'Connor in the box, Cristin Stuart broke loose from NU's Chrissy Sands behind the net and fed a passs to Deb Spillane on the far side. Spillane put it between Hourihan's legs for her 13th goal of the season to put the home squad up 1-0. BC upped its lead to 2-0 at 8:04 of the second on a beautiful feed from Spillane to Erin Blood. Spillane drew the defense to her and fluttered a backhanded pass to Blood on the near side. The defenseman cut in on Hourihan and deked to her backhand for her first goal of the season. The Huskies had a good opportunity in the closing seconds of the middle frame while on a 5-on-3 power play. Desrosiers fed Nikki Petrich in front of the net, and the sophomore got a shot on Quandt. The rebound lay in the crease, and the whistle blew just before Petrich was finally able to push the puck over the goal line. NU trimmed the deficit to one at the 10:20 mark of the third. The Eagles were broken up in the defensive zone and the puck came right to the stick of Ali Bielawski. The freshman turned around and flipped a wrister on net, and the puck handcuffed Quandt and hopped past her for Bielawski's fourth goal of the season, an unassisted tally. But that was as close as NU would come in the contest, the Huskies fourth one-goal defeat in the last six games. Northeastern faces off with Hockey East foe Providence on Saturday at Schneider Arena at 2 p.m. The Friars swept a weekend series with the Huskies on Oct. 29-30. Saturday will be the final meeting of the season between the two squads. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
