| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Connecticut 3, Northeastern 2
Juniors Ashley Bielawski and Marie Desrosiers scored second-period goals for the Northeastern women's hockey team, but Connecticut's Nicole Tritter got the game-winner in the second period of a 3-2 UConn victory. Marisa Hourihan turned away 31 of 34 shots in the loss, while freshman Brittany Wilson made 28 saves for Connecticut. It marks the sixth time in the last eight games that NU has been defeated by a single goal. UConn jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 13:52 of the first, with Katherine VanDeveire popping home a shot from point-blank range for her fourth goal of the season. Kristen Russell battled for the puck behind the net and shuttled it to VanDeveire, who lifted a shot over Hourihan's blocker. Jaclyn Hawkins also picked up an assist on the play. The home squad pulled even just 1:08 into the second, with Desrosiers converting a beautiful pass from Jennifer Beaudoin for her third goal of the season. Nikki Petrich blasted a slapshot wide of Wilson, and the rebound found its way to Beaudoin on the left side. The senior slid a crossing pass to Desrosiers, who flipped a backhander high past Wilson's glove to make the score 1-1. Connecticut battled back and regained the lead on a power-play goal by Hawkins at 14:12. Alicia Ramolla blasted a shot from the center point that Hourihan turned away, but Hawkins had two cracks at the rebound, with the second finding its way past the senior for Hawkins' 10th goal of the year. Kristen Russell was credited with a secondary assist on the tally. NU pulled even once again at 17:24, with Bielawski and Petrich converting a perfect 2-on-1 opportunity to make the score 2-2. Cassie Sperry sprung the rush with a pass to Petrich coming out of the defensive zone, and the sophomore swung wide to the right side. Petrich then drew the defender toward her and put a pass on the tape of Bielawski's stick, which she deposited for her eighth goal of the year. But UConn scored the final blow just 38 seconds later, as Tritter found herself wide open in front of the net. Leslie Hurlburt centered the puck, which deflected off a defender and right in front of Hourihan. Tritter got just enough of the puck for it to trickle through Hourihan's five-hole to give the vistors the game-winner. Connecticut held a 34-30 edge in shots and went 1-for-2 on the power play. NU was 0-for-2 on the man-advantage for the game. NU and UConn will finish off their season series on Sunday, Jan. 29, as the Huskies travel to Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum for a 2 p.m. contest.
