The Northeastern women's hockey team finished its season series with Connecticut on a sour note, falling to UConn in Storrs, Conn. 10-1 on Sunday, Jan. 29. Nikki Petrich scored the lone goal for NU and Katy Augustyn made nine saves in her first appearance in nearly two years for NU. Three different players scored two goals for Connecticut in the victory as the Huskies notched 10 goals on just 22 shots.
Connecticut scored on its first three shots on net, the first two coming with Marisa Hourihan between the pipes. After freshman Sarah Belliveau replaced the senior, UConn's Janelle Armitage made it 3-for-3 with a power-play tally at 10:14 as the home squad built as big a lead as it would need in the contest.
After UConn made the score 6-0 at 10:07 of the second, Augustyn entered the game for her first appearance since a Feb. 6, 2004 outing against New Hampshire. Northeastern went on to notch its only goal at 11:47, with Petrich scoring her seventh goal of the season and Chrissy Sands registering the only assist.
UConn got three more goals in the third period to finish off the contest. Kristen Russell, Jaclyn Hawkins and Leslie Hurlburt each scored two goals, while Russell led a list of four players with two assists. Northeastern put 30 shots on freshman Brittany Wilson, but the freshman made 29 saves in the victory.
Northeastern returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. against Boston University. The Terriers and Huskies each have one win in the season series.
