Marisa Hourihan made 28 saves to register her second consecutive shutout and three different Huskies scored goals as Northeastern topped Niagara 3-0 at Matthews Arena on Saturday, Feb. 25 for its third victory in a row. Ashley Bielawski had a goal and an assist for Northeastern, while Jennifer Beaudoin and Jessica Coppney had the other two tallies. The Huskies are now 8-23-1 on the season and will face the Purple Eagles again Sunday on senior day.

Northeastern struck first in the game on a beautiful play in the offensive zone. With Niagara trying to start an odd-man rush the other way, Ashley Bielawski jumped into the play and tipped the puck to a wide-open Beaudoin in the middle of the zone. Beaudoin took two strides and promptly ripped a wrist shot to the near side for her first goal of the season at 5:49 of the first.

The Huskies increased their lead to 2-0 at 12:32 of the second frame on an odd-man rush of their own. Stephanie Wood slipped a pass up the near side to Coppney, and Coppney broke in for a 2-on-1 opportunity. With the defense playing the pass, Coppney snapped off a wrister that beat Allison Rutledge to the glove side for Coppney's fifth goal of the season.

NU was awarded a power-play at 16:30 of the third and capitalized on it with Ashley Bielawski scoring her 11th goal of the season. Marie Desrosiers won a defensive-zone faceoff to Nikki Petrich up the near side and Petrich skated the puck into the offensive zone. After fending off several defenders, Petrich snapped a wrister that beat Rutledge low, but the puck rang off the far-side post. Bielawski jumped on the rebound and banged it home to put NU up 3-0 heading into the third.

Northeastern committed just two penalties in the game, increasing its penalty kill streak to 21 kills in a row over the last four games. NU was 1-for-8 on the power play in the contest.

The Huskies and Purple Eagles will go head-to-head again tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Matthews Arena for the final home game in the careers of NU's eight seniors. The Huskies will honor Katy Augustyn, Beaudoin, Jen Bergeron, Theresa Ella, Hourihan, Chrissy Sands, Kathy Sands and Lindsay Snider before the contest.
