The Northeastern women's hockey team went to Northford, Conn. for its first road game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 19, but was defeated by Quinnipiac 3-2 in overtime. The Bobcats scored the game-winner just 18 seconds into the extra session with a power play goal off the stick of Trudy Reyns. Marisa Hourihan made 30 saves in the loss.

Freshman defenseman Courtney O'Connor scored with just 1:06 remaining in regulation in a four-on-four situation to send the game to overtime. It was O'Connor's first goal in an NU uniform, while Nikki Petrich and Amy Goodney were credited with assists on the play.

Kathy Sands got Northeastern on the board at the 2:20 mark of the second period. Jessica Coppney put a pair of shots on net, and the second rebound came to Sands who shot the puck home for her first goal of the year. Coppney and Marie Desrosiers were credited with assists on the play.

The Bobcats thwarted NU's momentum quickly, pulling even just 29 seconds later, with Kristin Alcorn's first goal of the season. Quinnipiac later surged ahead at the 17:24 mark of the second period. Hayley McMeekin scored her third goal of the season, while Jennifer Maclean was awarded an assist.

Quinnipiac held the edge in the first period, allowing the Huskies just two shots on net in the opening frame. On the other side of the ice, Marisa Hourihan held strong for NU, turning aside all 15 Quinnipiac shots that she faced.

At 2:41 of the third, Crystal Rochon was called for a checking from behind major and a game misconduct, giving the Bobcats five minutes of power play time. NU was able to kill off the man advantage, with Hourihan making four saves.

Northeastern went 0-for-7 on the power play, while Quinnipiac went 1-for-7. The Bobcats outshot their visitors 33-15.

The Huskies are in action again this weekend as they head to Orono, Maine for a Hockey East matchup with Maine. The Huskies enter the contest with a 1-0-0 record in conference play.
