| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Boston University 4, Northeastern 2
Ashley Bielawski scored a pair of goals, but the Northeastern women’s hockey team found itself on the short end of a 4-2 game at the hands of Boston University on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Matthews Arena. BU’s Amanda Shaw also scored a pair of goals in the contest, as the Terriers remained atop the Hockey East standings with six points (2-1-2 HE). Northeastern is now 1-4-1 (1-1-1 HE). BU got a pair of first-period goals, the first coming at the 3:58 mark of the first period, with Nicki Wiart scoring her fourth goal of the season. Laurel Koller grabbed the puck off a strong forecheck along the side boards and wristed an odd-angle shot toward Marisa Hourihan. The shot deflected off the shaft of Wiart’s stick and past Hourihan to the near side to put the visitors up 1-0. The Terriers added to their lead at 7:46 while on the power play. Gina Kearns fed Erin Seman on the doorstep and the freshman wristed a shot just inside the far post for her third goal of the season. Kearns was credited with an assist on the play. The Huskies trimmed the lead to one on a coast-to-coast rush by junior Ashley Bielawski at 4:05. Bielawski took the puck in the defensive zone and skated around several BU defenders to move in on Alysse Wilcox. The Needham, Mass. native brought the puck to her forehand and roofed it high to the glove side for her second goal of the season. BU went back ahead by two at the 8:18 mark of the second. Koller rushed up the near side and threw a wrister on Hourihan, who made the save. The rebound deflected off Wiart and right on the stick of Shaw. The freshman wound up and ripped a slapshot low to the far side for her second goal of the season and the eventual game-winner. Shaw struck again at the 9:28 mark of the third on a one-timer. Shaw passed the puck to Seman on the near side, and Seman returned the pass to her teammate at the center point, with Shaw blasting a shot past Hourihan to the far side. It was Shaw’s second goal of the game and third of the season. Northeastern trimmed the lead to one on Bielawski’s second highlight-reel goal of the evening. Amy Goodney broke up a play at center ice and sent her classmate in alone on Wilcox. Bielawski faked to her forehand and dragged the puck around Wilcox to the near side for her third goal of the season. Goodney was awarded an assist on the play. Wilcox made 26 saves in net for the Terriers, while Hourihan made 17. The Huskies outshot the Terries 28-21 in the contest, partly due to a 9-5 edge in power plays. BU went 2-for-5 with a man advantage, while the home squad was 0-for-9.
The Huskies have more Hockey East action as they play a home-and-home series with Providence. The Friars are 1-1-1 on the season, and were defeated in their lone Hockey East contest by Connecticut, 3-1. The first game of the weekend series will be at Matthews Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with the finale at Providence Sunday afternoon. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
