| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Providence 5, Northeastern 1
The Northeastern women’s hockey team was defeated by Providence College on Saturday, Oct. 29, 5-1. Defenseman Kristin Gigliotti scored a pair of goals in 17 seconds as part of a four-goal first period for the Friars. Sarah Belliveau came on in relief of Marisa Hourihan for NU, and made 28 saves. Providence’s Jana Bugden made 19 saves in the victory. Northeastern is now 1-5-1 on the year (1-2-1 Hockey East), while Providence is 2-1-1 (1-1-0 HE). The Friars got on the board with their first shot on goal, which came at the 4:41 mark of the opening frame. Karen Thatcher took a shot from in close, and the rebound came to Erin Normore in the slot. Normore took a wicked wrist shot that got past Hourihan to the far side. Thatcher was awarded an assist on the play. PC struck again at 7:01, with Thatcher netting her second goal of the season. Thatcher received a pass in the low slot and was left uncovered, wristing a shot past Hourihan up high. Normore and Sonny Watrous received assists on the play, which chased Hourihan from the game having made just one save. At 13:29, Gigliotti scored the first of her two goals on a shot from the right point that was found its way by Belliveau and trickled into the net. She would follow that up at 13:46 on a shot from point-blank range. Cherie Hendrickson assisted on both goals. The Friars added to their lead at 16:20 of the second period, with Ashley Payton scoring her first goal of the season off a scrum in front of the net that saw the puck slide past Belliveau to the near side. Thatcher and Watrous each received assists on the play. Northeastern got on the board on the power play at 6:36 of the third period. Nikki Petrich blasted a shot from the high point, and the rebound found its way to Crystal Rochon’s stick. Rochon slammed the rebound home for her second goal of the year. Ashley Bielawski also was credited with an assist on the goal. The Huskies went 1-for-7 on the power play to PC’s 1-for-6. Providence outshot NU 34-26, though the home squad held an 18-6 edge in the third period. Stacey Scott came in for the Friars between the pipes for the final 7:55 and recorded six saves. The two teams will finish their home-and-home series tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Schneider Arena. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
