The Northeastern women's hockey team was defeated for the third consecutive contest, falling to Providence on the road 6-1 on Sunday, Oct. 30. Karen Thatcher had two goals for the Friars (3-1-1, 2-1-0 Hockey East), who got all of their six goals on special teams. Crystal Rochon scored the lone goal for the Huskies (1-5-1, 1-3-1 HE).

The Friars opened the scoring at 4:44 of the first period with the Huskies on the power play. With Kelli Doolin in the box for tripping, Thatcher scored her third goal of the season, her first shorthanded, with Brittany Simpson picking up an assist.

Providence extended its lead at 10:52 of the period, this time holding a man advantage. Sonny Watrous scored the goal, her third of the season, with Maura Grainger and Ashley Payton picking up assists on the play. Sarah Belliveau made 15 saves in net in the first period.

The Huskies trimmed the deficit to one early on in the second period. Amy Goodney and Nikki Petrich set up Rochon for her third goal of the season at 0:25. It was the lone blemish on the record of Jana Bugden, who made 19 saves in her second defeat of Northeastern in two days.

PC squashed any thought of a comeback later on in the period, with Kathleen Smith and Katelynn Laffin scoring power play goals at 3:19 and 14:37, respectively. Kristin Gigliotti picked up assists on each of the two goals, while Thatcher and Smith had one assist apiece.

In the third, Thatcher tacked on her second goal of the game at 3:32 on assists from Payton and Gigliotti on the power play. Ashley Payton finished off the scoring at 15:04 with a power play goal. Jenna Keilch was awarded an assist on the play.

Belliveau made 31 saves in the loss for the Huskies, while Jana Florio played the final 5:08 and recorded two saves. NU was 0-for-11 on the power play, while Providence was 5-for-11. PC outshot NU 37-22.

Northeastern is back in action this weekend as it travels to the north country of New York to take on ECAC foes Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
