The Northeastern women's hockey team opened its weekend in upstate New York with a 5-2 loss to Clarkson on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Potsdam, N.Y. Colleen Sanborn scored her first collegiate goal in the first period, and Crystal Rochon added a second period tally, but it was not enough to stop the Golden Knights. The Huskies will finish off their non-conference weekend against St. Lawrence on Sunday.

Sanborn opened the scoring at the 9:43 mark of a quiet first period that featured the lone goal and just one penalty - on Northeastern's Marie Desrosiers for hooking at 18:50. It was just the Huskies second first-period goal this season.

The Golden Knights scored three straight goals in the second period and never trailed again. Brooke Beazer scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Katie Morrison to tie the score at 1-1 4:11 into the middle frame.

Clarkson then scored a pair of goals in a 49-second span to take control. Ashley Shaidle scored her fifth goal of the year at 9:44 with an assist going to Christina Valesente. Just after the goal, Nikki Petrich was whistled for cross-checking, and the home squad cashed in with the game-winner. Morrison scored her first goal of the season with a man advantage at 10:33. Beazer and Shaidle picked up assists on the play.

The Huskies trimmed the lead to one at 15:17 of the third on a power-play goal of their own. Rochon scored her fourth of the season, while Lindsay Snider and Petrich were credited with assists.

Clarkson finished off the game with a pair of tallies in the final period, both on the power play. Micheleen Devine and Beazer were credited with the goals, which came at 10:38 and 13:18, respectively.

Marisa Hourihan made 37 saves in a losing effort for the Huskies, who were outshot by a 42-10 margin in the contest. NU did not register a single shot on goal in the third. Northeastern cashed in on its only power play, while Clarkson went 3-for-8.

Northeastern will face the No. 1 Saints in a 2 p.m. matchup in Canton, N.Y. St. Lawrence faced Providence in its opening game of the weekend on Saturday. Northeastern has lost five of its last seven to SLU, with the Saints defeating the Huskies last season 6-1.
