| 2006-07 Schedule/Results Boston College 4, Northeastern 1
Meghan Fardelmann scored two of No. 8 Boston College’s three second-period goals as the host Eagles defeated the Northeastern women’s hockey team, 4-1, on Tuesday evening at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Senior Marie Desrosiers scored the lone goal for the Huskies, while sophomore netminder Stacey Scott made a career-high 38 saves in net for Northeastern. Scott got her second start in a row for the Huskies, and made several spectacular saves to keep her team in the game in the opening period. Less than two minutes into the game, Scott made two great saves on point blank shots by BC’s Kelli Stack. Later, combined with a terrific job of backchecking by junior Nikki Petrich, she also denied Becky Zavisza, who rushed in all alone on a shorthanded attempt. The Eagles’ best chance of the period, however, did not require a save. After NU freshman Ginny Berg took down BC’s Allie Thunstrom to prevent a breakaway, Thunstrom took the first penalty shot of the season called on the Huskies but shot the puck high off the top of the crossbar. In all, Scott stopped 17-of-18 shots in the opening period, with the one goal proving to be very unlucky for the Husky netminder. At the 11:49 mark, BC’s Lauren Wiedmeier took a seemingly harmless shot from between the circles that hit Scott in the chest, but the puck bounced over Scott’s head and just over the goal line to give the Eagles a one-goal edge after one period. Northeastern outshot Boston College in the second period, 10-9, but the Eagles outscored NU, 3-1, to head into the third with a three-goal lead. The home team wasted little time, scoring 49 seconds into the period on the power play. After Scott made the initial save on Maggie Taverna, Meghan Fardelmann picked up the rebound and scored. Fardelmann added her second of the game at the 3:19 mark, after Stack grabbed the puck off a face off and charged to the net, feeding Fardelmann for the tally. BC notched its third of the period off of another Scott rebound, this time Zavisza putting home the goal. NU had its share of chances in the second period, but could only manage one goal. Senior captain Amy Goodney found herself alone with the puck between the circles off a scramble, but the Marquette, Mich., native was falling down and could only manage a weak shot on BC netminder Molly Schaus. Classmate Ashley Bielawski also broke in alone on Schaus, but the BC goalie made a nice pad save at the left post as Bielawski broke across the crease. The Huskies finally broke through with 16 seconds left in the period on the man advantage. Freshman Ginny Berg started a rush from the NU back line, dishing off to sophomore Colleen Sanborn. Sanborn then tipped a quick pass to Desrosiers, who streaked in down the right side and forced a backhand over the left shoulder of Schaus and into the net. The goal, Desrosiers’ second of the season and first since the season-opening loss to Ohio State on Oct. 6, broke a string of 14 consecutive power-play chances without a goal. Scott continued her very solid evening by holding the Eagles scoreless in the third period, making 15 saves. Scott made 38 saves on the night for Northeastern, while Schaus made 19 stops for Boston College. The Huskies continue their three-game road trip on Saturday afternoon, with another trip across town to face off with the Boston University Terriers. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Walter Brown Arena.
