| 2006-07 Schedule/Results Northeastern 4, Vermont 1
The Northeastern women's hockey team scored four unanswered goals over the final two periods to defeat Vermont by a score of 4-1 on Saturday night at Matthews Arena. Freshman Ginny Berg scored the game-winner 9:27 into the second period and freshman Sydney Arbelbide made 11 saves to earn her first collegiate victory for the Huskies. With the win, NU (4-25-2, 3-14-2 Hockey East) moves to within two points of Maine, who currently sits in sixth place in the conference with 10 points. Vermont (3-24-2, 1-16-1 Hockey East) stays in eighth place in the conference with three points. After a scoreless first period, the teams put three goals on the board in the second, with the Catamounts striking first at the 4:15 mark. With freshman Annie Hogan in the penalty box, Sarah Smiddy took the puck up the ice and fired a shot that was turned away by Arbelbide. Kristi Anderson picked up the rebound for UVM, however, and slid it under Arbelbide's pads and into the net. NU responded with two goals to head into the second intermission with a one-goal lead. Less than two minutes after Anderson's goal, NU senior Crystal Rochon tallied her fourth of the season to tie the game at one. Senior Amy Goodney circled around the net and took a shot, and Rochon crashed the net at the left post and snuck the puck by UVM goaltender Shivaun Siegl. At the 9:27 mark, Berg put the Huskies ahead with her second career goal. After a scramble in front of the Catamount net, Berg collected the puck at the blue line and wristed a shot that found its way through a crowd in front and into the back of the net. Freshman Chelsey Jones and sophomore Colleen Sanborn were credited with the assists. Northeastern added two goals in the final frame to account for the final score. Just over two minutes into the third stanza, Jones picked up the puck at center ice and fired a shot from inside the right circle that sailed high over the glove side of Siegl and into the back of the net. Then, with 14 seconds remaining and the Catamount net empty, sophomore Missy Elumba fired a puck from center ice that found the empty net. Freshman Lindsay Berman recorded the sole assist on both of the Huskies' third-period tallies. In the third period, NU held a decisive 13-3 shot advantage. Northeastern dominated play in the first period, outshooting Vermont by a 17-2 margin. The Huskies had plenty of chances in the opening 20 minutes of play, with the best coming 8:49 in when freshman Chelsey Jones rang a shot off the crossbar. NU had multiple opportunities, including having the only power play of the period, but could not get the puck past Siegl. The Huskies held the Catamounts without a shot until the 16:21 mark of the first period. Siegl earned third-star honors for Vermont by making 36 saves in a losing effort, as NU outshot Vermont, 40-12. The 40 shots marks the second time this season that NU has reached the 40-shot plateau, with the last coming in a 6-5 win over Maine on Oct. 22. The Huskies and Catamounts will return to the ice tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. at Matthews Arena in the Huskies' home finale. Northeastern will celebrate the five members of its Class of 2007 before tomorrow's game during its annual Senior Day festivities. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
