The Huskies were shut out by the Rensselaer Engineers on Saturday in Troy, N.Y., but a score of 4-0. Allysen Weidner had two goals and an assist in the game for RPI.
RPI started things off in the first when sophomore Laura Gersten scored her second goal of the season on a powerplay after Missy Elumba was called for sticking. Gersten received a pass from behind the net, courtesy of Weidner, and shot it past NU goalie Leah Sulyma for the eventual game-winner.
RPI went up by two goals near the 18th minute as Melanie Guillemette scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist form Jamie-Lynn Stewart. Guillemette now leads the Engineers in goals. The Engineers increased their lead in the second period when Weidner scored the first of her two goals two minutes in. Whitney Naslund chipped the puck over to Weidner who was able to get is past Sulyma for the third RPI score of the afternoon. Allison Wright also registered an assist on the tally.
RPI put the pressure on minutes later as Weidner grabbed a rebound off an inital shot by Gersten, which was blocked by Sulyma, and tipped it past the left side of the NU goalie, making it 4-0 in favor of the Engineers.
The Huskies hung tough and their defense shut down the Engineers for the rest of the game, but the offense could not cut down a four-goal deficit and left New York with their sixth loss of the season. Sulyma managed 34 saves in the net for Northeastern but was handed her fourth loss of the season.
Up next the Huskies return to Hockey East action, facing Providence College on Tuesday at 7 p.m., in Providence, R.I.
