| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Northeastern 5, Providence 4
The Huskies got off to their best start of the season and netted three goals in the first frame in Providence on Tuesday as they held off the Friars for a 5-4 win, the Huskies' first of the season. Sophomore Chelsey Jones scored twice for the Huskies in the third period, as freshmen Kristi Kehoe and Lori Antflick, and sophomore Annie Hogan posted first period scores. Kehoe's goal came on a Husky powerplay after Sarah Feldman was whistled for hooking at 11:35. Lindsay Berman and Nikki Petrich had the assists. The goal marks Kehoe's fifth of the season. Thirteen seconds later, Hogan put the Huskies up by two when she beat PC goalie Jennifer Smith for her second goal of the season, from assists by Alyssa Wohlfeiler and Ginny Berg. In the 15th minute of play, Antflick gave Northeastern a three-goal lead when she scored the first collegiate goal of her career, with Hogan assisting on the play. The Friars did get one back before the end of the first resulting from a cross-checking penalty taken by Missy Elumba. On the ensuing powerplay, Feldman grabbed her third tally of the season with assists from Kathleen Smith and Brittany Simpson. Leah Sulyma made 13 saves in the first period for Northeastern. For the start of the second period the Friars went with a new goaltender in Danielle Ciarletta and the move paid off as Providence held the Huskies scoreless in the second. PC meanwhile put on an offensive outburst, earning back two goals to tie the game. The first goal of the comeback came at 18:14 in the period courtesy of freshman Alyse Ruff, her third of the season. Rachel Crissy had the assist on the play. Less than a minute later, Danielle Tangredi tallied the game-tying goal for the Friars, her first of the season. Providence took 16 shots in the second frame, giving them 30 by the end of the second period. Meanwhile, the Friars held the Huskies to just four shots in the second. The roles were reversed in the third, as the Huskies came out firing. With 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Chelsey Jones ended a scoring slump and put the puck in the net, giving the Huskies a 4-3 lead. The goal, scored on a powerplay after Alyse Ruff received a hitting from behind major, was Jones' third of the season. Just over a minute later, Jones padded the lead with her second goal of the period after grabbing a rebound off a shot from Kehoe and putting it past Ciarletta to make it 5-3 in favor of the Huskies. Again it was a powerplay goal, as the Friars' Feldman was in the box for interference. Kehoe registered an assist on the play. The Huskies did allow Providence to score a shorthanded goal by Jean O'Neill, assisted by Katy Beach, but were able to hold on and earn their first win of the season. The Huskies converted three out of nine powerplay opportunities and killed six out of seven Friar advantages. Sulyma stopped 31 Providence shots for her first win of the season. With Jones' second goal of the night, she reached the 20th of her career. It also marks her fifth career multiple-goal game. Lindsay Berman also added two assists for the Huskies in the winning effort. Providence had previously won the last 12 head-to-head matches with the Huskies. With Northeastern's first win of the season, they improve to 1-1-0 in conference play. Up next, the team hosts Wayne State University for a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday at Matthews Arena. Both games begin at 2 p.m.
