The Huskies capitalized on two powerplays and scored an even strentgh goal to edge the No. 9 Boston College Eagles in a 3-1 victory at Matthews Arena on Saturday. Missy Elumba scored the game-winner for the Huskies, her first of the year. Kristi Kehoe and Annie Hogan posted the other NU scores, while freshman goalie Leah Sulyma stopped 32 shots for the win.

Play in the first period was fairly even, as the Huskies had their 10th consecutive penalty kill. But with 5 minutes remaining in the period, junior Becky Zavisza, set up by junior Meghan Fardelmann, shot the puck into the upper left corner of the net, over NU goalie Leah Sulyma's shoulder, to put the Eagles up 1-0 at the end of the frame.

The Huskies quickly climbed back into the contest, thanks to an early 5-on-3 advantage in the second period. BC senior Deb Spillane was called for slashing at 19:28, and 30 seconds later senior Cristin Stuart was sent to the box for interference, setting up the big powerplay. The Huskies converted, as freshman Kristi Kehoe tallied the tying goal at 1:19, her seventh goal of the season. Lindsay Berman (nine) and Chelsey Jones (six) had the assists on the play.

The Huskies then grabbed the lead at 8:30 off junior Missy Elumba's first goal of the season, assisted by junior Colleen Sanborn who collects her first point of 2007-08. Northeastern then killed off a Cassie Sperry obstruction-interference penalty to maintain a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame.

Northeastern continued stellar play into the third period and added an insurance goal at 15:18 off Annie Hogan's third of the season. Ginny Berg and Alyssa Wohlfeiler had the assists.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 4-10-1 and 3-3-0 in Hockey East play. They're now 3-1 in their last four games, and have been perfect on the penalty kill for their fourth consecutive game.

Kehoe now has four points in her last five games and Berman takes over the team-lead with nine assists on the season. Sulyma has passed the 300-save mark.

The Huskies return from the holiday break on Jan. 5 when they take on the Yale Bulldogs in New Haven, Conn.
