Northeastern defeated the Quinnipiac Bobcats 3-1 Saturday at Matthews Arena to improve to 5-0-2 on the season.

The Huskies struggled to get going in the first period, and generated little offense. They also had trouble staying out of the penalty box - NU was penalized three times in the first period. One of those penalties opened the door for Quinnipiac's Brandice Moniz, who sent a short-range shot past NU goalie Florence Schelling from out of a crowd in front of the Northeastern net. The goal is just the third that Schelling has allowed in four starts. The Bobcats' man-advantage was critical to their scoring effort - the Huskies have allowed five goals this season, and all have come on an opponent's power-play or extra attacker situation.

Trailing 1-0 at the first intermission, the Huskies played strong in the second period, and were bolstered by a power-play goal from Colleen Sanborn. After a hooking call on Quinnipiac's Trudy Reyns, the Huskies were able to establish posession in the QU zone. Lindsay Berman sent a pass to Sanborn at the right point, and Sanborn fired a shot into the upper left corner to tie the game at one.

NU's special teams unit continued to be effective in the third period, as Annie Hogan netted a man-advantage goal to give NU their first lead with 13:44 left to play. The Huskies withstood several strong attacks from the Quinnipiac offense in teh third period to hold on to their lead. Schelling made a spectacular save with ten minutes left, adjusting to a puck that was redirected in midair by a Quinnipiac attacker, and made the save off her blocker.

The Huskies defense survived a late extra-attacker push by Quinnipiac, and Ali Bielawski secured the win for the Huskies when she corralled a loose puck at center ice and fired in an empty-net goal in the game's final minute.

The Huskies play next on Nov. 1 when they host Boston College at 2 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
