Northeastern broke a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 over Vermont Saturday in Burlington, Vt.
The Huskies struck first with Kristi Kehoe scoring her team-leading 11th goal of the season at 16:52 in the first period. Stephanie Gavronsky netted her first goal of the season within the first minute of the second period to extend the Huskies' lead. Vermont mounted a strong offensive effort in the third in an attempt to claw their way back into the game, mounting an 11-6 shot advantage, but Leah Sulyma was solid between the pipes for Northeastern, making 26 saves on the night, and keeping Vermont off the board until the last two minutes of the game. Vermont got a late goal from Peggy Wakeham at 18:10 in the third period, but it was too little, too late, and the Huskies secured the 2-1 win.
Northeastern improves to 7-5-2 with the win, and 4-3-0 in Hockey East. The Huskies' next game is Tuesday, Dec. 9 at New Hampshire.
