Northeastern lost a close game to Boston University by a score of 2-1 Tuesday in the consolation round of the 31st annual Women's Beanpot tournament. The Huskies drop to 11-16-3 with the loss, but stay at 6-10-1 in Hockey East, as the Beanpot contest does not count towards Hockey East standings.

Both teams had plenty of offensive chances in the first period. A Northeastern giveaway deep in the zone gave BU an uncontested shot from close range, but Florence Schelling came up with a save.

Northeastern struck first at 13:02 in the period when Kristi Kehoe stuffed home the rebound off of a point-blank shot from Alyssa Wohlfeiler. The goal is Kehoe's team-leading 16th of teh season.

BU answered right back less than two minutes later, scoring a goal very similar to Kehoe's. Jennelle Kohanchuk got control of the rebound from a Gina Kearns shot and beat Schelling five-hole.

The second period saw both teams knocking on the door repeatedly. Schelling made a fantastic save five minutes into the period when she came out of nowhere to get a glove on a shot by Holly Lorms that seemed sure to find the open net. Schelling made 30 saves on the night, and kept Northeatern in the game in teh second and third periods, when the Huskies were outshot by significant margins.

The two teams battled down to the wire, but Boston University netted the game winner with less than a minute left to play when Sarah Russell coralled a bouncing puck and slid in underneath Schelling's left pad.

Northeastern hosts Vermont for two games this weekend, before closing out the regular season with a home-and home series against Boston University Feb. 21 and 22.

In the championship game, Harvard and Boston College battled through two scoreless periods and most of a third before BC's Kelli Stack notched teh game-winner on a short-handed two-on-one with Allie Thunstrom. Stack was named Beanpot MVP, and BC goalie Molly Schaus was named the Bertagna Award winner as the tournament's best goalie.
