The Huskies suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 6 New Hampshire Wednesday at the Wildcats' Whittemore Center. The Huskies drop to 6-4-2 (3-2-1 HEA) with the loss.
The Huskies played tight with New Hampshire in the first period, with neither team managing a goal. Both teams had a power-play opportunity, but could not convert.
New Hampshire took the lead midway through the second period when Courtney Birchard managed a short-handed a goal. It is the first shorthanded goal surrendered by the Huskies this year. New Hampshire sustained a lot of offensive pressure in the second frame, outshooting Northeastern 19-2, and had a 5-on-3 opportunity, but Florence Schelling made 18 saves in the period and the Huskies' penalty kill unit survived the two-man disadvantage to keep Northeastern in striking distance.
The Huskies had chances to equalize in the third period, managing five shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net. Angela Taylor added a second goal for New Hampshire with 2:12 left in the third period to secure the win for the Wildcats.
The Huskies next play on Sunday, Nov. 30 when they take on Boston College at the Eagles' Conte Forum.
