Northeastern (10-12-2, 5-8-0) 0 1 1 2
Maine (4-19-2, 2-11-1 HEA) 1 2 1 4

Despite goals from Alyssa Wohlfeiler and Katy Applin, Northeastern lost to Maine 4-2 at the Black Bears' Alfond Arena Friday.

Maine saw the most offensive action in the game's early minutes, as Northeastern did not get a shot on goal in the first five minutes of the period. Maine also saw the fiorst man advantage of the game, and converted 31 seconds into it, when Jordan Colliton notched her third goal of the season, off an assist from Jenna Oullette and Lexie Hoffmeyer.

Shortly after the goal, Northeastern got its first power play opportunity, which helped the Huskies get their offense going. On their second man-advantage of the period, Stephanie Gavronsky came within inches of evening the score at one when her shot rang the pipe. Northeastern's offense ultimately outshot Maine in the first period, despite the slow start, and Colliton's strike was the difference as the teams went into the locker room.

Maine's power play struck again early in the second period when Myriam Crousette got on the board for the Back Bears. Northeastern's penalty kill entered the game at 93.8% in conference play, and the oh-for-two start was uncharacteristic. The man-down unit was tested again when Annie Hogan was whistled for hooking, but Northeastern survived the Maine power play. However, Maine extended its lead thanks to a Vanessa Vani even-strength strike at 9:15.

The Black Bears' three-goal lead would not last long, however, as Alyssa Wohlfeiler got the Huskies off the mark less than a minute later. Northeastern's offense picked up some momentum after the goal, firing a handful of shots at Maine goaltender Genevieve Turgeon. A timely power play let the Huskies keep this offensive pressure going, but they could not get another on the board, despite outshooting Maine in the second period.

Northeastern opened the third period on a power play, but could not convert. Northeastern had a number of shots on net early in the frame, and Gavronsky hit the post for the second time with over 16 minutes left to play. The two teams continued to battle back and forth, and Maine netted a fourth goal a few minutes later on Crousette's second strike of the afternoon.

Northeastern controlled most of the offense after the goal, outshooting the Black Bears and enjoying two power plays, but could not get on the board. A late power play paid dividends in the form of a Katy Applin goal at 18:37, but the tally was too little and too late, and the Huskies fell by a score of 4-2.

Northeastern drops to 10-13-2 with the loss. The two teams face off again Saturday at 7 p.m.
