Northeastern loses to Friars in overtime

Northeastern played Providence to overtime, but gave up the game-winner, and fell to 10-15-3 (5-10-1 HEA) with the loss.
Northeastern struck first at 7:01 in the first period, when Annie Hogan poked in a loose puck off of a shot from Ali Bielawski.
Northeastern extended its lead to 2-0 in the second period, when Kristi Kehoe took a pass from Lindsay Berman and roofed a shot over the shoulder of Providence goalie Genevieve Lacasse.
Providence battled back however, and unleashed an offensive onslaught on the Huskies. The friars outshot Northeastern 24-5 in the second period, 20-7 in the third period, and 56-24 for the game. Florence Schelling was outstanding for Northeastern, stopping a career high and an NU season-high 53 shots to keep the Huskies in the game. Providence did get two goals by the Swiss netminder, but her efforts kept the game a tie instead of a Providence blowout.
Northeastern battled through four minutes of overtime before Mari Pehkonen notched the game winner.
Northeastern and Providence face off again in the second game of a home-and-home series Feb. 7 at Matthews Arena.
