The Northeastern women's hockey team recently handed out its end-of-season awards. Freshman goaltender Leah Sulyma took home the top honor of Team MVP, while Kristi Kehoe was named Rookie of the Year and Lindsay Berman was voted the team's "Unsung Hero".

Schuler resigns
Laura Schuler has resigned as head coach of the Northeastern University women’s hockey team, effective May 28, to become the head assistant coach of women’s hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She will stay aboard through May to help with the transition the program. The search for a replacement will begin immediately. Schuler, elected to the NU Hall of Fame as a former women's hockey player, coached the Huskies for the past four seasons as NU made strides in recruiting and on-ice play.

Huskies add to recruiting class
Northeastern has announced the signing of recruit Stephanie Gavronsky, a 5'9 defenseman, to a National Letter of Intent this week. Gavronsky is from Sherwood Park, Alberta and posted a 10-16-26 scoring line to lead her Sherwood Park Fury team to the Alberta Major Midget League finals. Gavronsky is also a member of Team Alberta and recently competed at the Canadian U18 National Championships.

Whitney inducted to NU Hall of Fame
Brooke Whitney, a native of Snohomish, Wash., was inducted to the Northeastern University Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of hockey on April 18. As a senior in 2002, Whitney received the Patty Kazmaier Award, the highest honor bestowed in women’s hockey, and became the very first Northeastern athlete to receive a national award for the best athletic performance.Whitney’s 22 career game-winning goals are an NU record, while her 86 goals are third and her 88 assists and 172 points are the fourth-highest.

Schelling makes history at Women's World Championship
Northeastern women’s ice hockey recruit Florence Schelling, of Oberengstringen, Switzerland, recently led the Swiss National Team to an unprecedented bronze medal game appearance at the Women’s World Championships in Harbin China. Overall Schelling was the second-ranked goaltender at the tournament, posting a record of 3-2-0, a .920 save percentage and a 2.95 goals against average to go along with one shutout.

Kehoe, Sulyma earn Hockey East awards
Forward Kristi Kehoe and goalie Leah Sulyma were both selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie team, the league announced on March 7. Kehoe led the Huskies in scoring this season with 25 points and was the only Husky to record a point in all of NU's wins. Sulyma, who was runner-up for Rookie of the Year, set a new freshman record with 973 saves which led Hockey East and was fourth in the NCAA. She was also presented with the Humboldt Storage and Moving "Three Stars" Award.
