 Katherine Glessner
Former Husky rowing standout Kady Glessner stroked the US Women’s Eight
to a gold medal at the World Championship in Poznan, Poland Sunday.
Glessner earned the stroke seat in her first year with the team despite
competing with 5 returning members of the 2008 Olympic team. At the
Lucerne Regatta in July,
Glessner and the US Women earned a silver medal, falling just short of
Romania.
In Poznan, Romania once again challenged the US, pushing them hard until the third 500-meter mark when the US broke away and held on for the win. It was a fourth consecutive World Championship victory for the US team which was joined on the podium by silver medalist Romania, and bronze medalist Holland.
For Glessner, the medal adds to an already impressive career. In addition to her two international medals, Glessner earned second-team All-America honors while rowing for Northeastern in 2006 and 2007. She was also voted Team MVP and Outstanding Varsity Oarsmen during here time at NU.
Glessner will continue to compete with the US squad as they prepare for the 2012 Olympics.
