The Northeastern women's soccer team tied Saint Mary's, 1-1, in double overtime Friday at the Harvard Tournament in Cambridge, Mass.
The Huskies came out slow allowing Saint Mary's a goal in the first half, but junior goalie Annie Petrosky kept the Huskies in the game making five saves before halftime.
In the second half Northeastern controlled the game, outshooting the Gaels 10-5. Sophomore Caitlin Whelan tied the game up in the 57th minute on a header assisted by senior co-captains Kristin Kowalik and Siobhan Howard.
The teams traded fast breaks throughout the second half, with Husky junior midfielder Dianna Mastromauro taking the ball downfield multiple times but unable to score.
In overtime the Gael defense stayed strong despite eight Husky shots. Kowalik placed a ball in the upper left corner but a Saint Mary's defender stuck to her post, heading the ball out of the goal.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie bringing the Huskies record to 4-1-1 on the season. Northeastern heads back to Harvard Sunday at 11 a.m. to take on Penn State.
