The Huskies answered their 2-0 loss to Delaware with a dominating 4-1 win over Towson Friday at Parsons Field. The Huskies got off to a quick start as Brenna Matthews scored her second goal on the season from a great pass by Veronica Napoli at 10:38.
Towson would answer back in the same half as Brittany Hadaway was able to fake out goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon on a free kick and managed to hook the ball around the right post at 31:16.
The two teams went into halftime notched at one with the Huskies outshooting the Tigers 13-5. The second half would prove to be much stronger for the Huskies as they notched three more goals.
Once again at 53:58, Napoli sent a perfect pass over as she being dragged down to the charging Liza Rebello who crushed a ball past goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak for what was the game-winning goal. That was Rebello’s fifth goal of the season and Napoli’s second assist of the night. Rebello also had a standout play as she blocked a Towson free-kick shortly after her goal.
At 76:09 Kelly Matthews, sister of Brenna, found herself with a wide open shot at the top of the box and took full advantage of the opportunity. Matthews, known for her strong leg was able to bury the insurance goal the Huskies were looking for.
After assisting on two goals, Napoli managed to tally one herself at 77:07. That was Napoli’s seventh goal of the season. Goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon was only forced to make one save as the Huskies defense turned in another solid game.
The Huskies take on George Mason on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Parsons Field.
