The Huskies took their first loss of the season to No. 18 Georgia in the final game of the Nike Invitational. Carrie Patterson netted the game's only goal at 54:42 and the Bulldogs held on to win 1-0 and advance to 4-0-1 on the season.
"It was a very good, evenly played match between two very good teams," said head coach Ed Matz. "We just happened to make one mistake, and it cost us a goal. But overall, I'm happy with results this weekend."
Stephanie Gordon made six saves for the Huskies. She was named the to All-Tournament team, along with teammates Devin Petta and Liza Rebello. Petta scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Clemson, while Rebello recorded one assist. The Huskies have now opened their season with matches against ACC, Big East and SEC opponents. The team stands solid at 3-1-0.
"To come down here and beat Clemson and take on 18th-ranked Georgia on their home field says a lot about this team," Matz said. "They can play with anyone in the country."
The Huskies are back in action next Friday at New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
