Two overtimes were not enough to find a victor in Sunday's 1-1 tie at Parsons Field. Rain played a role as the Huskies moved to 6-2-1 on the season.
Goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon did not have to make a save in the first half as strong Huskies defense limited the Blue Hens' offensive attack. Freshman Sandra Magnusdottir played an excellent game in the backfield, thwarting numerous Delaware chances early. The Huskies' offensive attack got off four shots in the frame but were held scoreless.
Gordon did not return for the second half and was replaced by freshman goalkeeper Megan Penn who saw her first collegiate action.
As each squad kicked up the offensive pressure early in the second frame it was Northeastern who struck first. In the 55th minute, Delaware goalkeeper Annie Bevan chased a ball out wide only to find Devin Petta getting there first. Petta crossed the ball back into the box and found junior forward Kristen Blake who added her second tally of the season.
Petta's assist was her 17th point on the season, tying her for ninth on the Huskies single-season points list.
The Huskies enjoyed the lead for just five minutes before Blue Hens' freshman forward Tania Domingos found the back of the net off a cross from Morgan Warrington.
Both teams had chances late in the second half as the game remained scoreless.
Delaware controlled play in the first overtime but was unable to score. Northeastern's one shot in the frame flew wide and the game remained notched at one.
The second overtime saw no shots from either side as the two teams battled for control. With the game still tied at one, time expired.
The tie moves the Huskies to 1-0-1 in CAA competition. Their next match will be at Towson Friday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.
