Northeastern and Old Dominion played to a 1-1 tie at Parsons Field on Sunday. The Huskies remain unbeaten at home (4-0-2), while moving to 8-3-2 (3-1-2 CAA) on the season.
Northeastern got on the board first in the match, when Sandra Magnusdottir recorded her first collegiate goal on a tick-tack-toe play with Veronica Napoli and Devin Petta. It was Petta's team-leading sixth assist of the season, and Napoli's second.
17 minutes in, co-captain Liza Rebello collided heads with an ODU player going for a header. Although fine and supportive on the sidelines, Rebello would not return for the remainder of the match. The Huskies were also without the play of co-captain and defensive staple Tinna Nielsen. The Huskies still managed to control the play for the entire first half, recording 11 shots, including four on net, to ODU's three. Stephanie Gordon had one save as both teams rested at the 45 minute break.
The Monarchs gained momentum in the second half, including a number of chances in the 60th minute, though only one requiring Gordon to make a save. With under 20 minutes remaining, Petta broke away only to be taken down outside the box by Brittney Kortz. Kortz was issued a redcard, but Northeastern was unable to capitalize on the resulting kick.
In the 80th minute, a player down, ODU was able to get on the board when Jodi Knorowski scored a high, opposite post goal from the top left corner of the box.
Veronica Napoli had a legitimate scoring opportunity on a feed from Magnusdottir with 6 remaining, putting a shot just wide of the net.
The two teams would remain scoreless through the extra frames, each recording a single shot on net. The 1-1 tie pushed ODU to 6-5-4 (2-1-3) on the season.
Northeastern will continue its CAA action on Friday at 7 p.m. with a visit to Georgia State.
